Curriculum
Throughout the curriculum, we encourage all children to strive for personal excellence and we endeavour to provide them with a strong sense of values.
From the National Curriculum, we offer most subjects providing breadth of study in all subjects
We aim to develop an enjoyment of and commitment to learning as a means of encouraging and stimulating the best possible progress and the highest attainment for all pupils, ultimately paving the path for the success of each child.
All children at Al Ameen Primary School are encouraged to think for themselves, question their learning and solve problems. Creativity and individuality are valued. We build on pupils’ strengths, interests and experiences. We develop their knowledge, skills, understanding and their confidence in their capacity to learn and work independently and collaboratively.
Through the curriculum we also help pupils develop physical skills and encourage them to pursue a healthy lifestyle keeping themselves and others safe. Our broad balanced curriculum ensures that all our pupils leave well prepared for a lifetime of change in a “knowledge society” equipped with skills to become independent, responsible, caring adults who respect themselves and others and value the wider groups to which they belong.

- Literacy

Assessment for learning
We are fully committed to the principles of Assessment for Learning. This is where classroom assessments are used to improve learning and to determine pupil abilities. It includes elements such as target setting, constructive feedback, self-assessment and peer-assessment. Not all pieces of work will receive a formal mark however work is assessed regularly and feedback is given on the next steps for improvement.
Monitoring pupil progress
The school has systems in place to monitor the progress of pupils. These systems allow us to identify areas of concern, be they for individual pupils or as a trend amongst a number of pupils. Annual reports, along with parent consultation meetings provide opportunities for teachers to discuss with parents the findings of these monitoring procedures and work out strategies for future improvement.
Homework
The School seeks assistance from home in ensuring that children are supported with homework as this reinforces and continues learning at school. Children are set appropriate levels of homework and parents are asked to provide time and space for their children to complete their work. Homework hand out days and return days are set for each class. Please speak to the class teacher for exact days.
Special Educational Needs
Al Ameen Nursery & Primary School is committed to providing for the educational needs of all its students. Identification of students with special educational needs, and the establishment of relevant provision to meet those needs is fundamental in order to establish equality of opportunity and inclusion of all students in all aspects of the curriculum. Children with any special educational needs are identified through contact with parents, medical professionals or by in-school identification.
Being a charitable organisation with limitations to funding, we may not always be able to obtain resources to cater for the needs of pupils with severe disabilities. In any such case, we would meet with the parents of the child informing them of the situation and work together to find a solution keeping the development and needs of the child in focus.
Duties of the trust board/ governing body in relation to pupils with special educational needs
Governors of community, voluntary and foundation schools have a duty under section 317 of the Education Act 1996 to do their best to ensure that the necessary provision is made for pupils with special educational needs. The trust board/ governing body of Al Ameen Primary School will: do its utmost to ensure that the necessary provision is made for any pupil who has special educational needs.
- Ensure that, where the ‘responsible person’, the head teacher or the appropriate governor, has been informed by the LEA that a pupil has special educational needs, those needs are made known to all who are likely to teach him/her
- Ensure that a pupil with special educational needs joins in the activities of the school together with pupils who do not have special educational needs. This should be so far as is reasonably practical and compatible with the child receiving the special educational provision his/her learning needs call for, the efficient education of the pupils with whom he/she is educated and the efficient use of resources
- Not discriminate in relation an application by a child with special educational needs, whether or not the child has a statement.
Looked After Pupils
The governing body of this school will: ensure all governors are fully aware of the legal requirements and Guidance for Looked After Children;
- ensure that there is a named Designated Teacher for Looked After Children; this is currently Mohammed Aminur Rahman.
- nominate a governor / trust board member who links with the Designated Teacher, receives regular progress reports and provides feedback to the governing body; this is currently Mr Moin Uddin.

Attendance
We believe that regular attendance and punctuality are key to the improvement and progress of a child. The school monitors attendance and will work with parents to overcome any concerns.
If a child is unwell and genuinely unable to come to school, the school should be informed by telephone on the first day of absence and *subsequent days. A note should be handed in to the office upon return. Other absences from school are only permitted by the head teacher and should be requested as far in advance as possible and in writing. Wherever possible, please make dental, optical and medical appointments outside school hours. Please note that we do not approve leave of absence for family holidays during term time, however under extenuating circumstances exceptions may be made.
*up to three days. Longer absences do not require daily informing. Please see policy for details. Previous year attendance statistics have been provided near to the end of the prospectus.
Behaviour
The school seeks to emphasize the importance of good Islamic etiquettes, as shown to us by our beloved Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). This is important not only in the classroom but also in the playground and elsewhere. Pupils and staff are encouraged to greet each other with “Assalamu ‘alaikum” (peace be upon you) as part of the effort to build an Islamic atmosphere and in accordance with the hadeeth of the Prophet ‘spread salaam amongst yourselves’.
We have high expectations from all pupils in relation to behaviour and anti-Islamic / anti-social behaviour are always discouraged. Good behaviour is accordingly praised and celebrated with high achievement being rewarded in assemblies and special events.
A behaviour policy at the school ensures that pupils are made aware of what is acceptable behaviour and that a ‘sliding scale’ of sanctions may be used if unacceptable behaviour occurs. This may lead to detention or, in exceptional cases, suspension or even exclusion. Appeals against the latter can be made to the Board of Trustees.
Fees & Charges
The annual school fees for pupils is set at £2000 per annum per child. Where there is a sibling at the school, each child will pay £1950 per annum. This is for parents who pay by standing order. Upon admission, there is a one off admin fee of £60 (reception class onwards).
School fees are payable in advance and can be made annually, quarterly or monthly. In addition, parents must pay for all exercise books and any other stationery issued to their children during the school year. Parents/guardians will be informed of any such contributions to be made.
Child Protection
Al Ameen Nursery & Primary School is fully committed to ensuring that children are safeguarded and kept protected. We support all pupils by promoting a caring, safe and positive environment, encouraging self-esteem and self-assertiveness and effectively tackling all forms of abuse. We aim to create an environment where all pupils feel secure, valued and listened to. Where there is suspicion or when we are able to recognise signs and symptoms of abuse, the school will act swiftly and effectively to minimise harm to any child. The welfare of every child is paramount!
Community Cohesion
Al Ameen Nursery & Primary School takes actively involves itself in the community and we do our part to make a positive contribution. Pupils are taught to value their position within the community and developed towards establishing themselves as a strong active part of that community.
An iftaar gathering is held annually at the school bringing together people from all walks of life. The school has also been involved in sports activities with another local school.
Pupils are taught to value what they have been given by Allah and to empathise with those who aren’t so lucky. As a result, pupils collectively have assisted in the following projects:
- Raising aid and funds for those suffering in Syria (a sponsored walk raised £2600)
- Raising awareness and aid for the victims of the Haiti earthquake·
- Providing support and raising funds for the victims of the earthquakes in Pakistan

Supporting Parents & Parental Engagement
Parents are encouraged to play an active role in the learning of their children. Set days for parent consultations, along with the option to regularly meet with class teachers promote parental engagement. We also have termly parent meetings wherein parents can come in and discuss with the head teacher and other members of staff the future of the school and what they would like to see happen. Meeting minutes are available on the school website for parents who were unable to attend.
Parents who are going through any difficulties may contact the school and where relevant, the school will support parents overcome any issues which impact their child’s development and progress.
The school runs a number of workshops throughout the year to help parents work with their children at home. Topics covered include phonics, reading, numeracy, behaviour, etc.
